Page Furniture and Design Elements:

Page furniture and Design Elements consist of small graphics and design aspects that are not the main feature of the page but provide the bodies of text and the images used with individuality. These features can take the form of a burn on the edges of the page, the effect of a crinkled page, shadows behind the text, blurred edges surround the text boxes. All of these are very subtle graphic designs, textures and features that make text boxes and pages in general more interesting and eye-catching to the reader.

When these forms of page furniture and design elements are used they must be subtle and not draw too much attention over the main most important sections of the page like the article or the anchor image e.g. the main band that the double page spread is being written about. They must not impede the clarity of the text and make reading the articles easier as well as falling into the colour theme of the house style.

RESEARCH

Pull Quote clearly highlighted in bolder text on the centre of the page catching the readers attention to spark interest.

Throughout the body of the text questions are highlighted white clearly distinguishing the quote from the rest of the text. Drop cap letter at the start of the body of text. The colour theme is also continued with white, black and pink shown through

Small stars dotted around the outside of the page forming a border, providing the illusion of a dressing room and having backstage access.

The contents page shows very clear font throughout. 'Contents' is boxed off from the rest of the text and alongside with mini subtitles has an inverted colour scheme which can be emulated throughout the magazine article with following titles. The Page numbers are bolder and wider than the rest of the text drawing immediate attention.

Some Action photographs are shown of related bands that are being covered in the magazine and the most 'important' or the 'focus' of the magazine is shown the largest in comparison to the rest of the photographs. They also have a matching number and colour scheme as the rest of the contents page.

Pull Quote takes up a third of the double page spread bringing the readers attention to the focus of the article and summaries the following body of text.

A medium long range shot of the band is used and takes up the entire page yet it is off centre to make room for the pull quote and any other slogans.

Body of Text is in a clear white font which is legible, clear and easy to read. A drops cap is used at the start of the body of text.

A red and white gradient bar is used to show a subtitle which links to the pull quote summarising the reason behind the article. The bar starts with a deep red which fades before it reaches the body of text.
